When we found out that my sister, Amy, was pregnant with a boy…we couldn’t be more excited. A family full of girls and now we will finally welcome a boy! Immediately Amy knew she wanted an adventure themed nursery, so I naturally began to plan an adventure themed baby shower.
I decided to start with a list of items what we wanted to create for the party: dessert table set up, wishing well, centerpieces, party favors, prizes for games, etc.
One of the best ways to begin planning for a party is research and more research on a little thing I like to call…the internet. I found a few good ideas on what I actually wanted to create and was able to design and craft original works.
Since it was an adventure theme, I decided to go with hot air balloons as the main source of travel. It had an old time whimsical feel, and fun idea to create. For the centerpieces, I decided to create hot air balloons with stuffed animals in the baskets. I ordered the nets on Etsy. A great find! For the wishing well, I decided on a travel trunk would be really cute. I found a great trunk on sale at The Hobby Lobby. Bonus…it counted as a gift since it could be used to hold the lil guy’s toys in his nursery.
The party favors were a jar of candy and a mini bottle of champagne to celebrate when the lil guy is born.
Creating the dessert table is by far the most fun part for me. I created a small travel case with old-fashioned items I had at home. The case was my grand mother’s, I had the camera for years, and the travel guides and globe were taken right from my book shelves at home.
I found an amazing wooden sign from Etsy with a mountain and “Adventure Awaits”, and I found small wooden planes at The Hobby Lobby. These would also end up as a gifts for the nursery.
Since Amy cannot eat gluten, I decided to get two cakes. One cake was gluten-free that was ordered from Sweet T’s Bakeshop in Haddonfield, NJ. The other cake was ordered from Sweet Eats Bakery in Voorhees, NJ. Both cakes turned out great and were super tasty!
Adventure Awaits was such a fun theme to craft for and a great party to throw.
